Wightaid help to keep our van on the road for another year

12th April 2017

We are excited to announce that WightAid have recently supported the foodbank by providing the funds required to keep our van on the road for another year.

What does the foodbank need a van for?

Throughout the week, food is delivered to 6 foodbank centres across the Island, where clients issued with a voucher can collect their emergency food parcel. Food is also collected from many of the major island supermarkets too, which has been donated by members of the public when doing their own shopping during the week.

Our van is a crucial part of the operation, bridging the gap and helping us to make a connection between those who kindly donate food, our main warehouse, foodbank centres, and our clients.

Why does the foodbank need financial support?

Whilst the foodbank is well supported by many people on the Isle of Wight, with regular food donations, an ongoing struggle we face is covering the essential running costs of the foodbank, but with no major funding. One of these essential running costs, is keeping our van on the road and maintained correctly.

WightAID supports charitable projects on the Isle of Wight. WightAID’s funding comes from Island companies, investors and individuals looking for an effective way to support our unique community.

What difference will this funding make to the foodbank?

Receiving this funding enables us to keep our van on the road for the upcoming year. This is a huge support financially and enables us  to better budget for the next year, without having to factor in the costs of running a vehicle.

We would like to say  huge thank you to WightAID and to everyone who supports the Isle of Wight foodbank. Daily, we are faced with the reality that, there are people on the Isle of Wight in desperate situations, and facing food poverty. But with your help, we can make a difference to those in need.
