Why leave a legacy?
By leaving a gift in your Will you will be enabling our vital work to continue. Here at The Isle of Wight Foodbank we are here to help local people out of poverty. Through the provision of emergency food, support and advice we strive to end hunger and break the cycle of poverty that exists here in the UK.
Leaving a legacy is a wonderful way to carry on supporting causes that matter to you long after your lifetime. They ensure the causes you care about most can continue to make a difference, upholding the values you were passionate about throughout your life.
The gift that keeps on giving
Paddy and Carol Henderson had a difficult decision to make when Carol’s mother died suddenly; what should they do with the legacy she left them in her Will? Betty had always wanted to help people, so they decided to use the money to try to change the lives of those hard to reach people overseas and in the UK; this is how The Trussell Trust was born.

Betty’s legacy has been transforming lives for 20 years; by investing it in the Trust it became the gift that kept on giving. Many people talk about leaving something in their Will for the causes they admire, but only 7% of the UK population actually do. Lucky for the Trust, Betty was one of the few who formalise their wishes in a Will. Paddy and Carol have been able to see the amazing difference one legacy can make, but in order to carry on the work of the Trust we need more inspirational people like Betty to make a gift in their Will to support our vital work.

Leaving a legacy isn’t complicated, and you don’t have to make a new Will if you already have ones. If you or a loved one want to continue to make a difference to people living in poverty why not consider leaving a legacy to The Trussell Trust.
How to leave a gift in your Will
Making a Will and keeping it up to date is important. We suggest you seek legal advice when drawing up or making amendments to an existing Will. A solicitor or member of the Institute of Professional Will Writers will be able to provide the best advice on the correct wording.
When it comes to making your Will there are different ways you can leave a gift:
Pecuniary gifts – are specified sums of money or a percentage of the residue estate.
Specific gifts – are items such as a property, paintings, jewellery.
Residual gifts – are made up of what is left of the estate, or part of the remaining estate.
You don’t have to rewrite your whole Will if you decide to leave a gift to us. Your solicitor can add a codicil to your Will that lists all the changes you wish to make to your original will.
