How it went- Tesco Neighbourhood Food Collection

1st August 2016

We are delighted to announce that an estimated 1.8 million mevolunteer at tesco neighborhood food collectionals were collected during the recent Tesco Neighbourhood Food Collection, by Trussell Trust Foodbanks nationally.

The Isle of Wight Foodbank were overwhelmed to recieve 1,864 kgs of food, so generously donated by shoppers over the weekend on 30th June-2nd July 2016. Tesco calculate the numbers of meals using a figure of 420g per meal.  On this basis, members of the public donated the equivalent of 4,437 meals at the recent food collection.

Thank you to everyone who got involved. All donations, whether small or large were gratefully received and will go to people on the Isle of Wight in crisis.

We are thrilled that Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket, shares our vision that no one should go hungry, and is working with us to empower local communities and fight poverty.

We could not have done this without help from our ever- helpful volunteers, along with the staff at Tesco who collected food on our behalf on the Thursday.

In addition to collecting food over the weekend of the National Collection, we have a permanent food collection point at Tesco Extra, Brading Road, Ryde for anyone who would like to donate on a more regular basis or just a one-off.
