The Isle of Wight Foodbank has launched an innovative new initiative to make supporting local families in crisis more accessible: the Can Card.
The Can Card is a simple, pocket-sized card featuring a QR code that enables donors to make secure financial contributions directly to the Foodbank. All funds raised through this method will be used exclusively to purchase tins and other essential food items, ensuring that donations reach those most in need across the Island.
The Foodbank continues to emphasise that physical food donations remain the preferred method of support. However, the Can Card has been introduced to provide an alternative for those who may find it challenging to donate in the traditional way, by visiting supermarkets or collection points.
Kay Lewis, Manager at Isle of Wight Foodbank, said:
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who donates food to support our work. The Can Card is designed to complement these vital donations by offering a convenient option for those who cannot easily get to a supermarket. Every scan helps us to purchase the essential tins and supplies that families in crisis urgently need.”
The Isle of Wight Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network and remains committed to ensuring that no one in the community goes hungry. Demand for support continues to rise, and the generosity of Islanders plays a crucial role in meeting this growing need.
