Give Help
Volunteer
Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.
Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.
Session Volunteer (Foodbank Cafe Helper – The Bay)
We are seeking foodbank session volunteers for our Foodbank in The Bay (Shanklin), which is open 4.30 – 6.30 on Thursdays. Our volunteers play a vital role giving direct support to local people who use The Bay Foodbank, meeting and greeting people coming into the Foodbank, packing their food parcels, making them feel comfortable and providing further signposting support where appropriate.
In this role you can make a real difference to local people’s lives providing vital help and support to those in crisis in your community. You will also be part of a friendly, supportive team.
General Volunteer (Fruit and Veg Gardener)
We are lucky enough to have a small amount of fresh fruit and veg growing in raised beds at IW Foodbank – but we desperately need help from an experienced gardener planning, planting and tending the plants. If you have the knowledge and experience we lack, and can spare an hour on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, please get in touch. We would love to learn from you.
Clothing Room Volunteer
Are you a whizz at organising or love to iron, if so, we need you. Based at Cowes in our preloved clothing rooms, you will be sorting and preparing the clothing donations we receive for our monthly Saturday sales. Join our lovely friendly teams during the week, have a natter and help us turn Fashion into Food.
General Volunteer (As & When Volunteer)
Do you think you can make a difference and want to volunteer but can’t commit on a regular basis? We have the role for you! The IW Foodbank is looking for people who can fill in when needed and join our team of amazing volunteers. This will not need to be a regular commitment but on an ‘As and When’ basis to cover occasional events, such as the Wolverton Manor Garden Fair.
Schools liaison volunteer (Schools Speaker (Isle of Wight))
Are you a confident and calm public speaker? Are you passionate about informing the next generation about the role of the Foodbank in our local community? We need a small team of volunteers to: deliver talks, assemblies and workshops in primary and secondary schools; and to liaise with the Operations Manager to plan a programme of presentations appropriate for each age group and in line with the ethos of the Foodbank. If you have previous school experience and would be interested in helping the Foodbank engage with schools across the Island, we would love to hear from you.
